NOVEMBER IS FOR WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS

10/28/2017

It seems like there is a month, day, hour designated to celebrate everything and anything. For example, did you know November 1st is National Vinegar Day and the first Thursday of every November is National Men Make Dinner Day (marking that on my calendar right now…). We like to create moments to celebrate the things in our lives that we take for granted or remind us what we’ve overcome. Even when the things we’re “celebrating” seem to induce eye rolls and deep sighs when we learn about them, they’re still fun and a way to learn something new. See the full National Day Calendar

November has a very special day that Doyenne has celebrated for the past three years, Women Entrepreneurship Day! This day is celebrated worldwide through conferences, workshops, events, and general celebrations to celebrate women entrepreneurs and the ventures they are building and running.

The official day for Women Entrepreneurship Day 2017 seems to be different based on where you look, some sites say November 17th and some say November 29th, so I think we should just say that November is Women Entrepreneurship Month!

When Wendy Diamond founded Women Entrepreneurship Day (WED) it was because she “witnessed firsthand how empowering women financially has the power to transform a community”. These words struck me deeply, as they are part of the reason Amy and I co-founded Doyenne.

Locally, there are many events Doyenne is part of to celebrate Women Entrepreneurship MONTH.

  1. Doyenne Spa-tacular – Thursday, November 2nd at The Edgewater Spa
Open to women entrepreneurs AND supporters of women entrepreneurs. Come for an evening of pampering, relaxation, and great conversation. We work hard in our professional and personal lives, join us to take an evening for yourself and support Doyenne
  2. Wisconsin Startup Week – Monday, November 6th – Sunday, November 12th happening across Wisconsin
Wisconsin Startup Week is organized by local entrepreneurs and organizations supporting entrepreneurs to host and collaborate on events within their communities to bring awareness to the entrepreneur activities and ventures within Wisconsin communities.
Madison’s Wisconsin Startup Week organizers are all Doyenne members! Ashley Powell, Leah Roe, Rachel Neill, and I have been working with local and statewide organizations to bring together events for entrepreneurs and the community to attend
  3. Women Entrepreneurship Day Wisconsin – Tuesday, November 14 at the Monona Terrace
This conference will be an impactful day with learning, listening, collaborating, networking, and much, MUCH more.
Doyenne has been greatly involved with this conference. Myself and many Doyenne members sit on the Advisory Board to help organize the conference and Laura Gallagher who is the lead organizer and WED Wisconsin Ambassador is also a member of Doyenne.
  4. Wisconsin W.O.M.E.N. Reception – Tuesday, November 14th at the Madison Club
W.O.M.E.N. stands for Women Opportunity Mentor Entrepreneurs Networking. This event is organized by the Wisconsin Technology Council and is the kickoff event for their Early Stage Symposium happening on Wednesday, November 15 – Thursday, November 16.
Local woman entrepreneur, and avid Doyenne supporter, Toni Sikes will keynote the event.
  5. Women Entrepreneurship Day Celebration – Friday, November 17th at Revel
This will be the second year Doyenne and Revel Craft Bar have collaborated to have an event for women entrepreneurs to come together, enjoy a craft cocktail, celebrate each other, and create a special craft bar item to take home with you.

I hope you’ll take time this month to celebrate you, what you do as an entrepreneur, how you support entrepreneurs, and everything else you bring into this world! You are amazing and Thank YOU for being you!!

I hope to see you around town,

Heather
